Violet P. Metterle, 89, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 10th at Preferred Care of Hamilton with her loving family by her side. Born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, she was a resident of the Hamilton area since 1957.

In 1950, she moved to the Trenton area to marry the love of her life, Stephen J. Metterle, who predeceased her in 2011 after celebrating 60 years of wedded bliss. Together they operated O.K. Bottling Co. located in Trenton, till it’s sale in 1988 after years of dedicated quality & service. Violet was a singer in her youth while still in Canada, often accompanying local bands. Some of her fondest times were spent tending to both outside & inside gardens. She loved babies & small children and could not pass up any opportunity to visit her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She loved cooking her mother’s recipes & walking several miles a day, often with her friend Judy, knitting and crocheting . She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, caring friend and she will be greatly missed.

The daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth Hajdu, she is predeceased by her brother, Frank Hajdu, her two sons-in-law, Thomas J. Vasil Jr. and Jack Kelch. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa C. and Steven Dombrowski, her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen A. and Cindy Metterle, her daughters, Linda E. Kelch & Sari Leoma Vasil, her grandchildren, Falon Dombrowski, Max and Shandi Kelch, Grant and Sarah Kelch, Stephanie Metterle and Ray Fanelli, Stacy and Ryan Gens, Jeremiah and Karla Metterle, Samantha and Vincent Carnabuci, 15 great-grand children (& one due later this year), her sister and brother-in-law, Liz and Phillip Marcotte , her sister-in-law, Helen Metterle and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private. A private Celebration of Life is being finalized.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Violet’s memory to Kindred Hospice 242 Old New Brunswick Place, Suite 140, Piscataway, NJ 08854.
