TRENTON – Josephine E Hastings, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the Robert Wood Johnson Memorial Hospital, Hamilton, NJ, with brothers Rev. Joseph Hlubik, Mr. Michael Hlubik and family friend Mary Ewer at her side.

Born on July 22, 1939, Josephine Hastings was the eldest of eight children born to Mary Rita and Joseph George Hlubik. She lived most of her life in Chesterfield New Jersey near the Hlubik Family farm. Josephine met the love of her life, Lawrence J. Hastings, on a blind date, July 22, 1960. They married on January 27, 1961, and celebrated 49 years of marriage prior to his death.

Josephine began her career as a medical secretary at McGuire AFB. She took a leave of absence when she had her two girls and returned to work as a legal secretary. She attended college classes at night to advance her career, and eventually was promoted to claims examiner in the staff judge advocates office at McGuire AFB. She developed her skills under Mrs. Polly, and eventually became the Staff Judge Advocate expert in claims review and adjudication. She was well respected by her colleagues, as demonstrated by dozens of performance awards throughout her career. After 34 years of service, she retired from civil service.

Post retirement, Josephine became an active volunteer for The American Red Cross, the Altar Rosary Society, Saint Vincent DePaul and the St. Mary’s food pantry until impeded by dementia.

Josephine is survived by her daughters Antoinette and Susan, her granddaughter Jessica, her grandson Matthew, and her siblings Mary, Michael, Jerry, Raymond, Father Joseph, and William and predeceased by Patrick.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown. Calling hours will be held 6-8pm Thursday August 4, and 9:30 -10:30 am Friday. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bordentown.
