Obituary for Joseph W. Lynch

Joseph William (Joe) Lynch Sr. age 92, passed away suddenly on Saturday, June 12th, 2021. He was a lifelong resident of the Bordentown/Florence Communities and a resident of the Indianwood Golf Community in Indiantown, Florida for more than two decades.

Joe was born on January 1st, 1929, at Camp Dix. After graduating from Bordentown Military Institute, he served four years in the Navy before hiring on as a lineman and repairman for New Jersey Bell Telephone, from which he retired after 31 years. He went on to work for, and eventually retired from, the State of NJ as a telephone resource technician.

Joe had numerous service oriented programs and institutions that he was involved in, ranging from the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 2085, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, Peter Muschal Elementary School Board President and Bordentown Regional Board of Education. He was involved in the local Little League program, the Elks Charger football program and voluntary work on various projects such as scoreboard wiring, backstop construction and the like.

As a father and friend, Joe was selfless, tireless and fiercely protective of those in need. For those in search of answers, he was a patient listener and an advocate of truth and kindness in one’s approach. He was humble in his position and a gentleman in his presentation. He loved his family beyond measure and was happiest when they were by his side. As a husband, his love was immeasurable, his performance unrivalled, his commitment without equal. He was, without question, an exceptional caretaker of his solemn vow. He has now, and forever more, returned to be with his loving Rose.


Son of the late George A. and Anna (Haines) Lynch, Joe is predeceased by his wife of 66 years Rose Marie Hartmann Lynch. He is also predeceased by his brothers George, James and John, his sister-in-laws Helen (George), Helen (James), Janet (John) and Elfriede (William), his daughter-in-law Betty Jo Thompson Lynch (Brian) and his grandsons Bryan Lynch and Kyle Lynch. He is survived by his brother William. Also surviving are his seven children, Joseph W. Lynch Jr . (Denise), Patrick M. Lynch (Beverly), Michael T. Lynch (Mary), Captain Kevin B. Lynch USN/Retire, Rose Marie Lynch-Foehr (Dan), Brian K. Lynch Sr and Lieutenant Commander Charles Lynch USN/Retired (Merrybeth). Grandchildren, Megan Lynch, William Lynch, Katie Gross (Lynch), Marah Lynch, Justin Lynch, Christopher Foehr, Tyler Foehr, Jacob Foehr, Anna Foehr, Brian Lynch-Urbaniak, Jared Lynch, Taryn Freda (Lynch), Kara Steffen (Lynch), Colin Lynch, Padric Lynch and Ian Lynch. Great Grandchildren, Riley Lynch, Emmy Lynch, Connor Lynch, Brayden Gross, Cameron Gross, Arden Lynch, Tyler Bilodeau, Carter Sorel, Naiah Chacon, Jameson Lynch, Esperanza Lynch, Carter Foehr, Riley Rose Foehr, Orla Lynch-Urbaniak, Mia Lynch-Urbaniak, Cason Freda, Cole Freda, Corbin Freda and Easton Steffen. Also surviving is Joe’s special, four-legged angel on earth, Lady.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday evening on June 22nd, from 5:30 pm ~ 8:30 pm with Elks Services at 6:00 pm and on Wednesday morning, June 23rd, from 8:00 am~9:00 am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am, at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, 45 Crosswicks St., Bordentown NJ 08505. Interment will be held at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown NJ, at 11:00 am, following the Mass.
