John F. (Jack) Spence Sr., 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, with his loving family at his bedside. Born in Bordentown City, he was a lifelong member of the Bordentown-Chesterfield community.
Jack had a long career working for the City of Bordentown. He worked in many different departments including, the City Police, the water department and the Public Works Department. While working for the public works department, John was in charge of the Christmas decorations on Farnsworth Ave and hanging the ornaments on the city’s Christmas tree. The Christmas season didn’t start until you saw Jack hanging the decorations. He retired in 2000 after over 30 years of dedicated service.
Jack was a lover of music and art. He taught himself to play the guitar, banjo, and mandolin. When Jack was not playing with his local band he could be found in front of a canvas painting whatever his eye saw.
But Jack’s greatest joy in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, a caring friend, and he will be missed by many.
Son of the late Samuel F. And Verona L Spence, he is predeceased by his beloved wife, Teresa J. Spence, brother Robert Spence. He is survived by his loving children, John F. Spence Jr. of Chesterfield, Terry (Warren) Bell of Bordentown, Wayne (Ellen) Spence of Allentown, his grandchildren, Laura (Rich) Carpenter, Matthew (Kelly) Bell, Lindsey Bell, Brittany (William) Wishart, Alena ( Russ) Smith, and his great Grandchildren, Ethan, Benjamin, Emily, Jackson.
