Obituary for John Nicholas Rogers

John Nicholas Rogers, age 59, of Cream Ridge, NJ, passed away peacefully in his home on February 20, 2021 after a long battle with cancer.

John was born on October 10, 1961 to Evelyn Knapp Rogers and Ernest R. Rogers Jr. in Honolulu, HI. After graduating from Pemberton High School (NJ), he went on to study engineering at Rutgers University. Upon graduation, he began working for CDM Smith and quickly made impressions by showing up on a motorcycle in leather chaps - but he was most known for his breadth and depth of knowledge. John’s engineering career at CDM Smith spanned 34 years and gave him the pleasure of working with peers and clients across the country. He was a meticulous master of his trade and never stopped learning. He was known for his attention to details and for passionately teaching younger engineers how things really work.

John leaves on this Earth his loving wife, Christie Arlotta; his rescued dog and six-pack of cats; his brother Ernest R. Rogers III and his wife Avery Rogers of Madison, GA; his sister Susan Wagle of Fairfield, PA; his brother James A. Rogers and his wife Sharon Grovatt of Tabernacle, NJ; his mother-in-law Barbara Arlotta of Middletown, NY; his sister-in-law Michelle Arlotta and her husband Brian Lometti of Frenchtown, NJ; his sister-in-law Barbara Elste of Danbury, CT; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. John was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Dane Wagle.

John was a lover of family, nature, motorcycles, good beer, gnarly waves, and his animals. He found energy and rejuvenation digging in his massive garden and serving up farm-fresh vegetables to all visitors. One could often find John in the garage, barn or garden tinkering around on a mission to fix or improve something. John enjoyed traveling with his wife, hiking with his breed-apart boys, and cutting laps with his South Jersey Enduro Riders crew. He made friends wherever he went and will be missed beyond words. One of his many gifts was letting people just be themselves around him. He lived life fully and wishes for everyone reading this to do the same - take the vacation, eat good food, smell the roses, learn something new.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society’s “Ball-less + Flawless: The John N. Rogers‘ TNR Fund” http://www.karmacatzendog.org/johnrogersfund John had a special love for the scrappy feral cats who he helped get fixed & vaccinated over the past 11 years.

A celebration of life will be held on a future, warmer, and safer date.
