Obituary for Gary Cuzzocrea

Gary Cuzzocrea, 51, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 25, 2022, surrounded by his loving family & friends. Gary was born in Plainfield New Jersey and resided most of his life in Lansdale Pennsylvania.

Gary's love of music began early and extended through his entire life. Gary began marching at J.P. Stephens High School until taking his talents to new heights with drum and bugle corps beginning with the Bridgemen in 1987 before beginning his long and storied tenure with the Crossmen in 1990 where he marched until 1992 and was a member of the visual staff from 97'-03', and Hall of Fame Class of 2009. Gary spent nearly two decades contributing to the Crossmen as a performer, instructor, mentor, volunteer, and active alumni association member. In the words of the Crossmen Alumni Organization: 'Gary was CROSSMEN'.

Gary's second love, while committed to the Crossmen, was with the North Penn Marching Knights from Lansdale, Pa. Gary began teaching the Knights in 1998 first as a marching technician until quickly ascending the staff ranks to visual caption head. He instructed the Nationally recognized and award-winning band for nearly two decades. He was an integral part of the North Penn Percussion Ensemble for over a decade during that tenure. Gary upheld the highest work ethic, and standards, and was a mentor to hundreds of students who were a part of the program. Gary was well sought after as an instructor, clinician, consultant, and mentor in the Pageantry Arts all over the country and will be missed by those who were taught by him and those who were lucky enough to teach by his side.

In addition to Gary's love for music, his talent as an artist created stunning painting on canvas that captured life like renditions of friends, pets and sports figures that were admired by all. His self-portrait “The Rookie” shows his true flare as a performer/artist and will be cherished forever.

Son of the late Eva A. Cuzzocrea. Gary is survived by his brothers, Domenic C. Cuzzocrea, Jr. and Christopher Cuzzocrea, his sisters, Evanne Cuzzocrea and Amy Mohr, his nieces Jacquelyn Cuzzocrea, Jaime Cuzzocrea and Valentina Hess, his nephew Samuel Mohr, and his great niece Evelyn Cuzzocrea.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
