Obituary for Doris Mattessich

Doris Mattessich of Columbus, NJ, passed away on October 10th, 2022 while surrounded by her family. Doris was 78 years old and born on August 6, 1944 to the late James and Robina Erentz. Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, Doris emigrated to the US when she was 20 years old. She originally worked as a nanny and later as an accountant in New York City. Her job as an accountant is where she eventually met, and later married her beloved husband of 46 years, Anthony.

Following the birth of their three children, Doris was a homemaker, cook, babysitter and holder of many part time jobs. Her incredible energy, generosity and devotion to the church inspired her to become a foster parent, during which time Doris and family cared for two infant foster children. Doris was an amazing hostess who loved cooking and entertaining friends and family. She loved to spend her summers in Southold, Long Island, fishing with family and of course laying on the beach tanning in the sun with a drink in her hand. Doris also enjoyed cruising with her husband and friends. Out of all her hobbies, spending time with her seven grandchildren was her favorite. Always thinking of others, Doris put her family and friends first in all aspects of life. She was an amazing wife, mother and friend. We will all miss her greatly.

Doris is survived by her beloved husband Anthony; their son and his wife, Paul and Jennifer Mattessich of Columbus, NJ, their daughters and their husbands, Robin and Christopher Buzas of Mechanicsburg, PA, and Alison and Erik Fitzgerald of Hillsdale, NJ; and their cherished grandchildren Charles, Stella, Lillian, Adelynn, Anthony, Jackson and Mackenzie. Doris also leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, Christopher and Patricia Erentz of Glasgow, Scotland, and sister-in-laws Frances Morin of Moonachie, NJ, Cathy Erentz of Glasgow, Scotland, and Mae Erentz of Glasgow, Scotland. Doris is pre-deceased by her father James and mother Robina, her brothers Victor Erentz and Harry Erentz, her sister Iris Keen, and loving brother-in-laws John Morin and Joseph Keen. Also touched by her death are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and neighbors. She will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
