Obituary for Ann P Kennedy

ANN P. KENNEDY

Ann was born in Trenton, New Jersey on September 16, 1930, to Slovak immigrant parents Joseph and Anna Sabol. She attended Sts. Peter & Paul Grade School, where she delighted in singing in the church choir and participating in May processions. In 1948 she graduated from Cathedral Girls High School and started working as a secretary.

On New Years Eve of 1949 she met fellow Trentonian Paul Kennedy on a blind date. Paul soon took off for U.S. Navy boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Station, Michigan, and a romance blossomed in their love letters and an occasional weekend pass. They were married in Trenton on June 9, 1951. Senior Chief Petty Officer Kennedy’s 22-year Navy career took them and their 5 children to Toms River, NJ, Dallas, TX, Levittown, PA, Brunswick, ME, and Washington, DC.

Ann was a model Navy wife. She never complained when it was time to pack up all their belongings and move to a new place, find new schools for the kids, see new things, and make new friends. Her love of travel took her to France, Italy, Slovakia, Puerto Rico, Caribbean Islands, Canada, and Mexico. In her later years she lived in the mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania and in Tucson, AZ, where she developed a passion for desert living and the cultures of the southwestern Native Americans and the Spaniards who first settled in Native territory.

Ann passed away at Samaritan Hospice, Mt. Holly, NJ, from complications of a fall on April 14, 2023. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, three of her brothers: Joseph Sabol, John Sabol and Michael Sabol, and her youngest child, Paula Montrie. She is survived by her brother Edward Sabol, her children Elizabeth, Christine (Edward Livingston), Jule and James, her sisters-in-law Virginia Kennedy (William Corboy) and Kathleen Cheeseman, and by numerous nieces and nephews. They will all miss her cheerful personality and crazy jokes, the delicious Slovak cooking and pastries, and her willingness to go to new places and try new things.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 21, 2023, at Bordentown Home for Funerals, 40 Crosswicks Street, Bordentown, NJ 08505. Family and Friends I invited to a gathering Friday morning from 10:00 am until the time of Service.
