Obituary for Albert Raymond Belonzi

Dateline Bordentown Township

Albert (Al) Belonzi passed away peacefully at home, on April 4, 2023.
Al was born in New York City, on September 1, 1929, the son of Albert and Florence Belonzi. He is survived by his son, Albert (Rai) Belonzi, his grandchildren Alison and Alexander, his sisters in law Vera Riehle and Klara Schad, numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends and neighbors. Al was predeceased by his wife Anni, his parents and sister, as well as his daughter in law Nancy Belonzi, and his brothers in law, Armin Riehle and Artur Schad.

Al joined the United States Army at the age of 17, and served his country for 22 years. He served three tours of duty in Korea, one tour in Vietnam, and 3 tours in Germany. Al met his wife Anni during his first tour in Germany, and having found the love of his life, they married while in Germany, returning to the United States in 1955. Al retired from the military in 1969, and began working on his civilian career, ultimately taking a position with Philips Lighting, and retiring from there in 1994.

Al then began his retirement, with his proudest career yet, that of loving grandfather and care giver to his two grandchildren, Alison and Alexander. While juggling his duties as grandfather, he began traveling and cruising with Anni, and expanded his cooking skills, especially enjoying preparing Italian meals for his family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Franklin Fire Company Number 1, 3135 US-206, Columbus, NJ 08022.
